The exhibition
A plate of rice on the pavement, next to a body taking a break. A crowd pressed together under a tree. A corner bar where party flags, beer crates and raised arms fight for space.
In 2023, Becks Lange went to her first Brazilian Carnival, not as a tourist, not quite as an insider. Guided by Brazilian friends, she skipped the parades and followed the street blocos, the botecos and the shared meals that run into sunrise.
Shot on colour film, theSpace Between looks at Carnival from its edges: the hours after the spectacle, when pleasure, fatigue, politics and appetite share the same frame. Nothing is explained. Nothing is resolved. Everything is there, in the space between.
The artist
Becks Lange, who works as the negative club, is a Venezuelan photographer. She shoots on film, close to people, inside the moments most cameras skip.
Brazil was part of her life long before she went there, through her mother's closest friendships and the Brazilian families she grew up around. theSpace Between is what happened when she finally arrived.

Juliette Kovács is a painter. A cartoon, a film still, a video game screen, painted next to a memory of her own. In her canvases the real and the made-up share the same surface, and you stop being sure which is which. Her work looks at how pop culture slips into what we remember, and how memory keeps changing.
